Maple Class – Investigators Department

In Maple class we are friendly, energetic and always ready to learn! We are part of the Investigators Department and follow our Saxon Hill informal curriculum. We have a topic for each half-term, focused areas of learning across subjects and exciting provisions in our timetable such as forest school with Isabel, cooking with Kate and music with Matthew. All pupils make progress through our Rainbow Profile and we pride ourselves in working really hard towards our EHCP and Golden Thread targets. We have lots of fun in Hydrotherapy and Rebound developing our physical goals, and get the opportunity to have a half-term's worth of swimming at Burntwood Leisure Centre! We know that we learn best when our sensory, emotional and physical needs are met and therefore we prioritise this continually throughout the day to ensure that we feel happy, safe and secure. It is important that our voices are heard the second we come into school, all the way through until home time. We adopt a 'total communication' classroom where you will often see lots of different types of communication tools being used e.g. PODD, symbols, yes/no bands, eye-gaze, Makaton, switches and much more! We are encouraged to be kind to our friends and staff both in the classroom and around school, as well as being as independent as we possibly can to prepare us for our future.
