At Saxon Hill Academy we consider keeping your children safe the most important aspect of our work. We always follow the most up to date annual government guidance on how best to keep children safe:
Our in-school system for reporting any concerns our staff may have about the safety and well-being of our children is called My Concern. All staff are trained and checked in how to use it and we encourage them to report any concerns no matter how minor. This way we ensure that we collect a complete picture as different people may each contribute a 'jigsaw piece' of the whole situation so we can begin to understand it better. we will sometimes call families to discuss any concerns so that we can work together to resolve any issues and support in any way we can. Many of our children have social workers due to their additional needs and often require extra equipment to access regular activities at home, sometimes social workers can help families to get the support they need as their children grow.
Our children let us know if they are feeling low or if they have any worries. Some can tell us verbally or using their communication devices, others show us using their body language or vocalisations and as we know our pupils so well, we tune into them and know when their demeanour has changed and can ask the right questions of the right people to help us understand why. We use a system called My Voice which pupils can access via a QR code on a phone or tablet, or show the symbol to a member of staff who will support them to use the reporting system from there.
Visitors can also use the My Voice with QR code accessed system to report any concerns they may have after seeing pupils in school.
We have an arrangement with Staffordshire and Stoke Police whereby any time they are called out to a domestic abuse incident at the home of one of our children, they will contact us to inform us that there has been a Domestic Abuse incident. This arrangement is called Operation Encompass and it is an information sharing partnership between Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent educational settings (from Reception through to Higher Education) which allows schools to offer immediate support for children and young people experiencing domestic abuse.
If you are ever concerned about the safety of your child at school. please let the safeguarding team know immediately.

Online Safety is an important part of ensuring the safety of the children and young people at our school. How to stay safe and how to behave appropriately online is explained and demonstrated to all pupils as part of our curriculum.

Reporting
CEOP helps keep children and young people safe from sexual abuse and grooming online. They help thousands of children and young people every year, as well as their parents and carers. They provide help and give you advice, and you can make a report directly to us if something has happened to your child online which has made either you or your child feel unsafe, scared or worried. This might be from someone they know in real life, or someone they have only ever met online.
Please visit: https://www.ceop.police.uk/safety-centre/ to report a concern. If you are in immediate danger please call the police on 999 straight away. Please also tell an adult you trust who will be able to help you.
As well as making a report to CEOP, the Thinkuknow website has information and advice to help you if something has happened to you online.
