Saxon Hill Academy is celebrating an incredible milestone with its 17th consecutive Outstanding rating from Ofsted, following a recent inspection of its residential provision, The Sleepover Club, which took place from 30th September to 2nd October 2025.
This achievement reflects the school's unwavering commitment to providing high-quality care and education, reinforcing its position as a leader in special education. Saxon Hill's residential provision has consistently received top marks from inspectors, with exceptional ratings in all key areas.
Outstanding Care, Support, and Relationships
Inspectors praised the exceptional care and nurturing environment provided by staff, noting that the relationships between staff and children are "remarkable". Children aged 5–18 who stay at the Sleepover Club benefit from a setting that is described as warm, welcoming, and homely. Personal touches, such as children’s photos and toys, are displayed throughout the residence, making it feel like a true home away from home.
Staff's dedication and enthusiasm were highlighted as a significant strength. They are praised for going above and beyond to make children feel safe, valued, and respected, with one parent commenting, “They are like a family to them.”
Children enjoy a wide variety of activities that encourage them to have fun, try new things, and follow their individual interests. These opportunities help them develop new skills and build positive relationships with their peers.
Outstanding Safeguarding and Protection
Safeguarding was described as highly effective and fully embedded across the school. Inspectors highlighted that leaders have excellent oversight of safeguarding and that staff are skilled at noticing children’s needs and responding quickly and effectively. The use of physical intervention has been completely eliminated since 2018, and staff manage behaviour in a positive, respectful, and child-centred way.
A Culture of Strong Leadership
Leadership at Saxon Hill was again identified as a major strength, with the school being described as led by experienced and inspirational leaders who are fully dedicated to the well-being of the children. Inspectors praised the school’s leadership for consistently maintaining high standards and acting swiftly to address any concerns.
The strong collaboration between the school, the residential team, families, and external professionals was also highlighted as a key factor in creating a consistent and seamless experience for the children. Governance was commended, with academy councillors regularly visiting the school to ensure that the high standards of care and education are being upheld.
Strong Parental Support
Parents consistently shared their trust and confidence in the school’s leadership and care. One parent said, “They are very happy with the support their children receive.” Inspectors also noted that children are encouraged to participate in activities they enjoy, make friends, and develop independence, which is vital for their personal growth.
A Thriving Community of Excellence
The Ofsted report ends by celebrating the unique, caring culture at Saxon Hill, where both staff and students thrive. The remarkable leadership and the quality of care create an environment where staff are proud to work, and children are proud to stay.
Saxon Hill Academy is incredibly proud of its 17th consecutive Outstanding rating, a reflection of the dedication, expertise, and compassion of the entire school and residential team. This achievement cements Saxon Hill’s reputation as a national leader in special education and residential care, ensuring that the children who attend continue to thrive, feel safe, and enjoy positive, enriching experiences every day.
