Hub 4 – Towards Independence
We are working in the Towards Independence Department, following the pre-formal pathway.
We enjoy learning through sensory experiences, as this makes topics more accessible to us. We also focus on Preparing for Adulthood skills, and this year some of us have begun work experience sessions at Craft Barn.
Each term, we base our learning on different AQA units relating to the Towards Independence anchor. These units help us work towards achieving AQA certificates in recognition of our hard work and efforts throughout the year.
We learn through exploration and are provided with many opportunities to develop our independence and our communication skills, including through PODD, Makaton and switch-accessed technology.
We develop our personal, social and emotional skills through weekly PHSE lessons, as well as through therapeutic sessions such as story massage and soundbath.
We work on our physical development each day, through regular position changes and sensory movement sessions. We have a dedicated PE session every week, as well as opportunities to access Rebound Therapy and Hydrotherapy.
We develop our literacy and problem-solving skills through sessions that include sensory stories, switch-accessed activities and write dance. We also enjoy lessons such as art, music, forest school and cooking.
Hub 4 are a happy and social group who enjoy trying new experiences and celebrating all successes and achievements together.
