Hub 4 – Towards Independence
Welcome to Hub 4!
We are working in the Towards Independence Department, following the pre-formal pathway.
We enjoy learning through sensory experiences, as this makes topics more accessible to us. We do this through sensory stories, story massages, star boxes and so much more. We also focus on Preparing for Adulthood skills, and this year some of us have begun work experience sessions at Craft Barn.
Each term, we base our learning on different AQA units relating to the Towards Independence anchor. These units help us work towards achieving AQA certificates in recognition of our hard work and continuous efforts throughout the year.
We learn through exploration and modelling and are provided with many opportunities to develop our independence and our communication skills, through PODD, Makaton and switch-accessed technology.
We develop our personal, social and emotional skills through weekly PHSE lessons, as well as through therapeutic sessions on personal development Fridays, such as sound-bath, yoga/mindfulness, teamwork and exploring culture using music, dance and art.
We work on our physical development each day, through regular position changes, use of walkers, standing frames and sensory movement sessions. We have a dedicated PE session every week, as well as opportunities to access Rebound Therapy and Hydrotherapy.
We develop our literacy and problem-solving skills through sessions that include being out in the local community, using technologies around us, such as switch-accessed activities and write dance. We also enjoy our music, forest school and cooking sessions
Hub 4 pupils are a happy and social group, who enjoy trying new experiences and celebrating successes and achievements together.
