Hub 3 - Towards Independence

We are working in the Towards Independence Department, following the formal pathway, and undertake accreditations in Maths, English and Science.

We enjoy learning through practical experiences, as this makes topics more accessible to us, and are provided with many opportunities to develop our independence and communication skills through PODD, Makaton, switch-accessed technology and regular modelling of AAC devices.

We have a strong focus on Preparing for Adulthood, which includes a dedicated Life Skills lesson every Wednesday morning, where we learn skills such as budgeting, cooking and planning trips. We particularly enjoy accessing a range of work experience opportunities in the community, such as Dobbies Garden Centre, Lichfield Food Bank and Beaudesert Park Farm, as well as raising money for our school prom by preparing meals in our school café and selling items at our pop-up shop.

We develop our personal, social and emotional skills through weekly PHSE lessons and Personal Development Fridays, where we develop our own interests by accessing sessions with other classes, such as music, history and art. We work on our physical development each day, using walkers and standing frames, and have opportunities to access Rebound Therapy and Hydrotherapy on a Friday afternoon.

Hub 3 pupils are a happy, social group with an excellent sense of humour. We love trying new experiences and celebrating our successes together.
