Hub 2 – Towards Independence

Welcome to Hub 2 class. We are a part of the Towards Independence Department. We are a very positive and lively class where we celebrate the achievements of pupils daily, however great or small. We have worked to create a home from home environment for pupils to thrive and learn in.

An important focus in Hub 2 is to promote independence in preparation for adult hood. Pupils are developing important skills such as feeding themselves, making choices using a range of communication aids from visual resources and symbols to BSL and Makaton, and carrying out practical tasks that promote self-care.

We ensure consistent routines are followed to provide pupils with an understanding of their school day alongside auditory cues. Sensory diets are accessed daily and are an important part of our daily timetable. This supports the self -regulation needs of pupils. We have access to our very own sensory integration area within the classroom and an outdoor provision dedicated to Hub 2 pupils.

There are opportunities throughout the year for some pupils to regularly explore the local community, visiting a range of shops and cafes. We also plan trips for the whole class.

We follow a differentiated timetable that offers engaging lessons to pupils following the leader's curriculum, whilst meeting our pupils individual EHCP targets. These include rebound, hydrotherapy and sensory integration.

Pupils in Hub 2 also enjoy learning through a multi-sensory approach including sensory stories, reading, creative art, forest school, PSHE, just to name a few. Some of our pupils work towards AIM qualifications and accreditations, whilst others work towards achieving AQA certificates in recognition of their hard work and efforts throughout the year. There is never a dull day in Hub 2!
