Beech Class – Adventurers Department
Welcome to our wonderful Beech class! Beech is a part of the Adventurers department and follows the Pre-formal and In-Formal pathway. We aim to promote independence, positive mental health and wellbeing of all our young adults.
Each week we base our learning on a sub question that relates to our topic. Furthermore, we investigate this sub question by: learning through exploration, developing our independence and our communication skills. In our class we promote the use of AAC, Makaton, Tassels, speech and PODD.
Pupils will be learning crucial skills through accessing the Saxon Hill Academy Anchors: Communication, Language and Literacy, Independence & Well-being, Thinking and Problem Solving, Physical Skills & Fitness, Community and the Wider World and Creativity. Pupils will engage with key skills by doing activities that link to our topics. We use the engagement profile to maximise student’s progress and to help us create a child-initiated curriculum. This year we will place emphasise on teaching personal, social and emotional development lessons. We will achieve this development through therapeutic sessions including: story massage, soundbath, sensology and starbox. Alongside these lessons, we will promote the love of learning through our diverse curriculum which includes activities relating to: art, sensory story, music, write dance, forest school, cooking, topic and tactile awareness.
We will work on our physical development each day, through our mini P.E sessions which include constant position changes and yoga shake sessions. A few of our favourite lessons are: Forest School, Hydro and Rebound where we get to explore a new environment.
We are a very happy and social group, you will always find us smiling and laughing.
