Hub 2 – Towards Independence
Welcome to Hub 2 class. We are a part of the Towards Independence Department. The age of the pupils in our room ranges from 14– 17 years. Hub 2 class is a very positive class where we celebrate the achievements of pupils daily, however great or small. We have worked to create a home from home environment for pupils to thrive and learn in. An important focus in Hub 2 is to promote independence in preparation for adult hood.
Pupils are developing important skills such as feeding themselves, making choices using a range of communication aids from visual timetables to TOBI symbols, BSL and Makaton, and carrying out practical tasks that promote self-care.
Hub 2 are learning about their wider community through weekly planned visits. Pupils can go shopping in the local community, visit parks, go bowling, visit a garden centre, and enjoy a meal out.
We have a fun differentiated timetable that offers engaging lessons to pupils. These include rebound, hydrotherapy and sensory integration. Hub 2 has its own sensory integration area that can be accessed at all times allowing pupils opportunity to participate in sensory integration and help self-regulation.
Pupils in Hub 2 also enjoy sensory stories, reading for pleasure, art and love music. Some of our pupils work towards AIM qualifications and accreditations, whilst others work towards achieving AQA certificates in recognition of their hard work and efforts throughout the year. There is never a dull day in Hub 2!
