Saxon Hill Academy recognises its legal duty to work with other agencies in protecting children from 'significant harm' and responding to possible child abuse. The framework for such procedures is defined by the relevant circular from the Department of Education and skills and the Staffordshire Area Child Protection Committee.
The staff seeks to adopt an open and accepting attitude toward children and young people as part of their general responsibility for pastoral care. Staff hope that parents and children feel free to talk about any concerns or worries which may affect educational progress and that they will see the school as a safe place if there are any difficulties at home. Children will be taken seriously if they seek help from a member of staff.
All staff must work within the legal and statutory guidelines for child protection. These are found in the DfE Circular 10/95 – Protecting Children from Abuse: the role of the education service and the folder, Child Protection issued by the Education Department of Staffordshire County Council, both of which are available in the school office. We encourage all staff through awareness and training to have a good working knowledge of our Safeguarding policy. All staff will have a working knowledge of the 'Every Child Matters' framework and its significance in our setting.
